Black Beauty Shop Initiative
The Black BeautyShop Program Works with community stakeholders to empower Black women to take an active role in their total health by understanding and being responsive to their immediate health care needs through education, screenings and promoting healthy living strategies in Black owned beauty shops, barber shops and beauty businesses.
We work with beauty salons (stylists), barbers, beauty supply store owners, makeup artists and other beauty
professionals around the country to promote health, beauty and wellness initiatives by partnering with them.
Our Programs
Stylist Mentally Mobilized: We provide stylists with training to help recognize the signs of mental, physical and emotional duress occurring from depression and anxiety that their clients may be affected by. Through tise training, stylists are able to talk with their clients, listen to them, and provide resources and information on access to the proper medical care.
Health Awareness & Screenings: We work with salons, barbershops, beauty supply stores and other beauty businesses to host health events and provide free health screenings to them, their customers and the community. The program consists of health education, health and wellness screenings and resources for access to care.
Screenings and Education includes: Blood Pressure, BMI, Glucose, Cholesterol, HIV/STD, Cancer, Fitness and Nutrition
